(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Angry protestors blocked Sidon’s al-Murjan roundabout with burning tires to reject the sit-in launched by the cleric’s supporters on the city’s eastern highway, for it blocks the vital roads in the city.
Dozens of businesses have suffered financially from the sit-in, which the Salafist cleric has said would be open ended until his demand to negotiate the Resistance weapons – used against the Zionist occupier - is met.
The protestors marched towards the seaside corniche but returned to the sit-in site after security forces prevented them from reaching the area following a decision by the Sub-Security Security Council of the South.
The cleric told local media outlets that the Popular Nasserite Movement has the right to express its opinion but in a civilized manner, claiming that his supporters were civilized in expressing their views, even though they attacked an Agence France Presse photographer one day before, beating and injuring him.
But the head of PNM, Osama Saad, told al-Marada movement’s website that the cleric’s sit-in is provocative and damages the economy.
Last month, the salafist cleric and his supporters began an ongoing sit-in in the vital roads of Sidon, southern Labenon.
The sit-in has angered residents and several local shop owners for the disruption it has caused since it began on June 28.
